Home Teaching
Home Teaching

“And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.” - Mosiah 2:17

My talk is about Home Teaching and the importance and value of it.

Home teaching is the responsibility of all Melchizedek Priesthood holders and of those who are teachers and priests in the Aaronic Priesthood. As part of their responsibility to watch over the members of the Church, home teachers visit their assigned families at least once each month to teach and strengthen them. Home teachers establish a relationship of trust with these families so that the families can call upon them in times of need.

The Importance of Home teaching is much more than just visiting a family, it is the responsibility that we as members of the Priesthood have been given by our Father in Heaven so that we can watch over his flock. We visit the families so that we can give feedback to the Branch President or Bishop on how the members in the branch or ward is doing. We establish needs that arise in either spiritual or physical life, by teaching the families that are assigned to us we help them to see that the Priesthood members of the Church care for them and are there for them when they are in need, home teaching is not a burden it is a gift given by our Father in Heaven. When you go and visit the members and teach then your own knowledge and Testimony becomes stronger. Strengthening our members helps the branch also become stronger. The strength I am talking about here is spiritual strength. The stronger we are in spirit the less chance Satan and his minions have on tempting us to stray from the right path.

When you go and visit a family you as a Priesthood member you can feel the Holy Spirit more clearly and stronger and the Holy Spirit then guides you to teach them the lessons that they need to hear. Sometimes you go with a lesson that is prepared for them and in the end by the guidance of the Holy Spirit your whole lesson changes to give them the teaching that they need.

Being a Home Teacher is a responsibility given by God to the Priesthood from ancient times, even Christ said that we must go out and teach the nations about His Gospel. By teaching you are taught also. Just because you are a member of the Priesthood does not mean you have all the answers or knowledge, even a young child can give you the answer to a question that you struggle with. Home teaching also brings you closer to Christ and Christ like values. Home teaching is service, humble service in the name of our Lord.

I am also guilty of not doing my Home teaching the way I should, Satan always brings obstacles on our path when we start doing righteous deeds and with Home teaching he brings a lot of obstacles on your way, as long as we stay strong in the faith we can proceed forward and help the members of our branch become stronger. For me visiting a family is such a wonderful experience you get to teach them about the Gospel but not only that you get to be a part of their lives for that few minutes that you are there with them.

I leave you with this in the name of Jesus Christ
